Wig Wednesday

Today Gore Main had Wig Wednesday.

The school council went about organising a day in which children were encouraged to wear mufti and a wig to support those children fighting cancer.

It was great to see so many children supporting such a fantastic cause.

A Warm Winter Reward

This term Room 7 have been learning to write persuasive texts.

To give the children a purpose, they were asked to write a letter to the teacher explaining why they deserved to be taken out for hot chocolate.

These fabulous students were chosen amongst 25.

We had a great lunch out, sipping fluffies and eating fresh baking at the Green Room.

Exploring our New Space

On Friday, Gore Main School had an exciting afternoon. A piece of once un-used land has been opened to the school. Our principal, Kath Russell shared some words about our new learning opportunity. Explaining that the school was to use their imagination to utilise a piece of unused land









A school treaty was created and read by two senior classroom representatives. It was later signed by members of the school promising to be considerate, use their initiative and to demonstrate the school values within the new play area.









Using a set of wire cutters our oldest pupil within the school, opened up our once unused space to the school.













An oak tree was donated by two previous Gore Main students. It was planted to represent new beginnings within the school by members of our Enviro-group.


























The children had a fantastic time exploring their future 'curiosity garden' or 'inspiration playground'.



Like any good inquiry project, we are in the 'middle of muck' stage, where our students are still undecided on how they would like to use the area or even what to call it.



Staff are striving to create unique areas within the space with our students in order for them to have complete buy in and ownership of the area.

Our Adventure to see the Kakapo Chicks.

On Wednesday Room 7 was very lucky to get to see a couple of rare Kakapo chicks close up.

Although we were not permitted to take photos of the chicks, we managed to take a snap of Katie presenting the DOC girls with a beautiful thank you card she had created.

 

 















After a quick bite to eat and a visit to the Invercargill library, Room 7 along with Room 5 headed to Queens Park for a little play.






Although it was a little chilly, we wrapped up warm and had a great time.

 

 

Room 7 would like to send out a HUGE thank you to the three wonderful mums who came along on our field trip. You were amazing.
